Happy Birthday Telima!
Twenty-two years ago this day...
I was in first grade. The intercom buzzed and the secretaries in the office informed the whole class that Keryn Tobler was to go home with McKay Baker today, because Keryn's mom was having a baby. I was so excited. I wanted it to be a girl so bad because it meant that we got to keep our amazing bunk-type beds. That is as far as my seven-year-old brain could comprehend. Jen and LaDale wanted another little brother.
So we all went home with Kasey and McKay. (I have no idea where the boys went.) Not too long after we got there, we got to talk to someone on the phone (I can't remember if it was Mommy or Daddy. Probably Daddy.), who told us it was a GIRL! Hooray!
Later that day Grandpa Pace came and picked us (at least Jen and me) up. He took us to McDonalds, where we got Happy Meals!!!! Oh, the happiness. Then we went to Grandma and Grandpa Pace's house, where we spent the night. I vaguely remember sleeping in the mask room, which really scared me because of those awful stories Erin and Amy Pace told us about the china doll that came to life and killed all the family of the little girl...but that's another story. Anyway, I remember feeling superior to the boys because, even though they were staying at G&G Pace's house that night too, they didn't get Happy Meals. Oh, the mind of a seven-year-old.
The only other thing I remember is when Mema and Telima came home, and LaDale, while sitting on the edge of Mema's bed, got to hold Telima.
I'm so glad you are part of our family, Telima. I'm grateful that it was you and not Jacob Ernest, because Jacob Ernest wouldn't be pregnant with his own little girl right now the way you are! I love you!
(Anybody else have any memories they want to share about Telima's birth?)
