"My First Lesson in Motherhood"
This is a beautiful story about a mother and father who adopted a little girl from China. Natalie, as they decided to call her, had physical problems that the prospective parents hadn't been informed of before flying out to China to meet and take Natalie home. They were faced with this decision:
I pictured myself boarding the plane with some faceless replacement child and then explaining to friends and family that she wasn’t Natalie, that we had left Natalie in China because she was too damaged, that the deal had been a healthy baby and she wasn’t.What they chose to do, and the results, are amazing and reassuring--so much of what we hear about in the world is sad and evil. It is good to be reminded how much love and goodness there really is in the world.
