Facebook Friends

Not that I am the best person to ask about the Facebook Friends list but I think of it as a social networking application. As such, how well you know someone is irrelevant, it is more important how helpful it might be to get in contact with them if you ever need to do so. Some people I am friends with because we once knew each other and had an acquaintance, others because they are close friends, others becasue they are family, some because I am curious about what they are doing in life and still others because they want to be my friend (few, but there are some). Should I really smash their hopes of being my friend?

I really just do it for K'napd and keeping some essence of being in touch with people (friends for High School, College Friends, Co-workers, etc. who I am curious to see what they will do with their life or what they have done with it). But this is coming from possibly the only person to use Facebook as if it were an email client.
